Basic Beliefs

  • There is one true God, eternally existing in three persons — Father, Son and Holy Spirit — each of whom possesses equally all the attributes of Deity and the characteristics of personality.

  • Jesus Christ is God, the living Word, who became flesh through His miraculous conception by the Holy Spirit and His virgin birth. He is perfect Deity and true humanity united in one person forever.

Jesus lived a sinless life and voluntarily atoned for human sins by dying on the cross as a substitute, thus satisfying divine justice and accomplishing salvation for all who trust in Him.

He rose from the dead in the same body, though glorified, in which He lived and died.

He ascended bodily into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God the Father, where He, the only mediator between God and humanity, continually makes intercession for His own.

  • The Holy Spirit has come into the world to reveal and glorify Jesus and to apply the saving work of Jesus to individuals. He convicts people of their sin and draws them to faith in Jesus. Upon their profession of faith in Christ, the Holy Spirit indwells the believer, interceding for them in prayer, and guiding them throughout their life.

  • Humans were created in the image of God to be his image-bearers. However, our sin (inability to perfectly follow his commandments) separates us from him

  • Only through faith in Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection can sin be forgiven and fellowship with God be restored.

  • Jesus Christ is the Head of the Church, which is composed of all people who have been joined to Him through saving faith.

  • Believers in Christ take part in baptism as a symbol of the cleansing they have experienced by their faith in Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection. It is not a requirement for salvation.

Believers also take part in communion (or the Lord’s Supper) as a witness to their union with Christ and the church.

  • Believers are called to make disciples of Christ from people of every nationality. Disciples are not just people who believe in Jesus, but those whose beliefs guide their lives.

  • Jesus Christ will come again to the earth — personally, visibly, and bodily — to judge the living and the dead and to reign over it forever.

  • We are an interdenominational church, which means that we affirm the core Christian beliefs above, while welcoming people from all denominational backgrounds. We share a common cause with all Christians - the advancement of the kingdom of God!

We recognize that our congregation is made up of people from a variety of church backgrounds. We believe it is a beautiful picture of the body of Christ! Rather than being an exclusive title, we support all Christian denominations within our community and share a commitment to the essential beliefs of Christianity. We seek to be humble and gracious when we may differ on secondary issues.

  • We believe that all people are born with the essential dignity and intrinsic value that comes from being made in God’s image and are equally capable of receiving the gifts and exhibiting the fruit of the Holy Spirit. We acknowledge and lament that institutional barriers can exclude some who come to church seeking love, grace, and growth in Christ.

At Hope Church, we welcome everyone to participate at all levels of church life: partaking of the sacraments, serving in ministry, joining in membership, and holding leadership and staff roles; regardless of sexual orientation, gender, ethnicity, nationality, marital status, social or economic class.
